Director of Project Delivery Transmission (UK)

United Kingdom | Full-time | Senior Leadership

We are seeking a Director of Project Delivery Transmission to lead large-scale new build and upgrade projects across the UK. This is a high-impact leadership role for an experienced project director with deep expertise in transmission project execution, stakeholder engagement, and large capital programme management

Responsibilities
  • Take full ownership of transmission project delivery in the UK, ensuring achievement of schedule, quality, cost, and safety targets.
  • Establish and oversee a comprehensive PMO system, including planning, risk, schedule, quality, contract, and financial control.
  • Manage EPC contractors, design consultancies, suppliers, and subcontractors to ensure compliance with Transmission Owner (NGET/SSEN/SPEN) standards and HSE requirements.
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration with sales, engineering, supply chain, and factories to ensure seamless order-to-delivery processes.
  • Monitor progress against milestones using traffic-light reporting, and provide regular updates to the UK CEO and Group HQ.
  • Lead client communications, manage variations, claims, and disputes to ensure customer satisfaction and positive cash flow.
  • Build and develop a local delivery team, with responsibility for recruitment, training, and succession planning.
  • Approve project spend, resource allocation, and safety incident investigations up to delegated authority level.
  • Ensure organisational effectiveness in resource utilisation, both internal and contractor-based.
Experience & Qualifications
  • Degree qualified in engineering, business, or a related discipline; advanced professional qualifications preferred.
  • 15+ years of project management experience in transmission or power engineering.
  • 5+ years delivering projects within the UK/European power market.
  • Proven track record managing large-scale projects (£100m+ individual investment).
  • Strong expertise in contractual management: NEC3/NEC4, FIDIC, PMI, Prince2 frameworks.
  • Financial management of multi-hundred-million-pound projects, with focus on budget returns and early revenue.
  • Extensive experience leading geographically diverse teams and engaging senior stakeholders across the supply chain.
  • Strong knowledge of UK transmission sector regulations, CDM, and HSE frameworks.
  • Skilled in value engineering, risk management, programme delivery, and project refinement to achieve business case requirements.
