Overview

Chichester College Group have an exciting opportunity to join us as a College Community Support Officer at our Brighton MET (East Campus). You will join on a term-time, permanent basis, and in return, we offer a competitive pro rata salary of £26,716 to £29,196 per annum (i.e. £22,194.83 - £24,255.14).

Role

As our College Community Support Officer, you will provide a familiar, visible, consistent and accessible presence for students, staff and visitors across the College site and be a focal point in relation to personal safety, wellbeing, supervision and security. You will become an integral part of the Student Wellbeing team, encouraging increased community confidence and cohesion.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide first response to incidents regarding challenging behaviour and safeguarding across the College site.
  • Be aware of areas of concern and assist managers or appropriate College staff to adopt a collaborative problem solving approach, implement de-escalation techniques and restorative justice where appropriate.
  • Liaise with curriculum and support teams to provide advice, guidance and holistic support to students and staff.
  • Promote positive behaviour in line with the College core values.
  • Maintain accurate records.
  • Liaise with external organisations as appropriate (e.g., contribution to internal events for road safety, wellbeing and e-safety).
  • Where applicable, work with Closed Circuit TV (CCTV) and related radio links or watch schemes to provide proactive and regular support across the College and, where appropriate, in the local community.
  • Make referrals to external agencies such as police and social services to ensure multi-agency working for student safety.
Qualifications and Experience
  • GCSE Maths and English Language or equivalent at C/4 grade or above.
  • Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject area (e.g., Coaching, Health and Social Care, Youth Work).
  • Experience of working with young people (including 14–19 year olds) and vulnerable adults.
  • Experience of working with challenging behaviour on site.
  • Experience delivering training in the workplace.
  • Experience dealing with disclosures and making referrals to external agencies regarding safeguarding matters.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft applications and databases.
  • Knowledge of Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults, including Prevent.
