Job Summary

Assisting the Registered Nurse with assessing, planning and implementing care for Emergency Department patients. Working under the direct supervision of the registered nurse and answering to the Nurse in Charge. Escalating concerns to registered professionals. Documenting on the electronic patient records.

Attend training and ensure compliance is maintained. Demonstrate excellent communication skills, maintain professional boundaries and work within own limitations and scope of practice.

Main Duties of the Job

  • Personal Cares
  • Assisting patients with nutritional needs
  • Patients vital signs
  • Pain assessment
  • Wound care - cleaning wounds and applying dressings
  • Wound closure - under supervision of a practitioner
  • Phlebotomy
  • Cannulation
  • Applies plaster of Paris back slabs
  • Applies splints and bandages
  • Assesses patients for crutch walking, including crutch fitting
  • Blood glucose testing
  • Performs pregnancy testing*
  • Performs urine testing* - and sends for microscopy under instruction
  • Recording ECG's
  • Keeping all areas of the department clean and tidy
  • Decontaminating cubicles and preparing cubicles for patient use
