Job summary

A leading health organization in Wales seeks an Immunisation Nurse to oversee the delivery of immunisations and support a team in clinical settings. Candidates must have NMC registration and will be responsible for clinical assessments, supervising vaccination procedures, and providing training to Immunisers. Both Welsh and English speakers are encouraged to apply. This is a fixed-term position for 12 months.

  • Providing clinical advice regarding consent issues for immunisations.
  • Undertaking regular audits as identified by the Team Manager.

Overview

This is an exciting opportunity to become an Immunisation Nurse (Band 6 Clinical Supervisor) working within the Immunisation Team. The aim of the post is to oversee the team of immunisers in the safe delivery of immunisations to the school aged population. The aim of the Team is to support the current School Nursing service with the delivery of the immunisation programme across Wrexham and Flintshire; in school, clinics or the home environment. The objectives are to promote and increase the uptake of school-aged immunisations in line with government targets; minimise the impact of the immunisation programme upon other core School Nursing services; develop a cohesive high functioning team; integrate the dedicated team into current school nursing teams; and ensure a seamless delivery of the programme demonstrating best practice and positive outcomes.

This post is Fixed term/Secondment for 12 months to meet the needs of the service.

Candidates must hold current NMC registration.

Responsibilities
  • Delivery of a safe immunisation service, assisting to influence and facilitate change within the setting and service areas.
  • Conducting clinical assessments of clients prior to vaccination.
  • Supporting the reviews of complex medical histories and potential adverse reactions and offering specialist advice as needed.
  • The supervision of the configuration of the vaccination clinical team and vaccination station within the mass vaccination delivery model.
  • The clinical supervision of safe vaccination delivery.
  • The supervision of drawing up and preparation of the vaccine prior to administration and ensuring that each activity is recorded.
  • The post holder will provide support and clinical supervision to the Immunisers.
  • The post holder will set up, co-ordinate and deliver training to local Health Board Immunisers.
  • The post holder will provide highly specialist clinical advice in relation to the care of clients.
  • The post holder will provide highly specialist clinical advice in relation to issues around consent of children for immunisations.
  • The post holder will regularly undertake audits as identified by the Team Manager, and provide feedback on audit results.
