Job summary

A leading healthcare organization in Shrewsbury is seeking a Clinical Skills Technician to support the training of medical students. This role requires NVQ Level 3 education and experience in a clinical setting is preferred. Clinical Skills Technician

We are looking for a motivated individual to join the highly successful Undergraduate Team at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust. We are responsible for training approximately 160+ undergraduate medical students from Keele University each year. The Trust has recently been awarded University Hospital status.

The successful applicant should be educated to NVQ Level 3 standard and ideally have worked as a healthcare assistant as the post does require some patient care. It is essential that you have excellent communication and organisational skills and you will be required to work alongside a wide variety of professionals.

You will be required to be flexible in your working hours between 07:30 until 20:00 Monday to Friday to assist with evening sessions and exampreparation. Most of all you must be dedicated to excellent patient care and education.

Main duties of the job

The main part of this role is to support the Practice Education Facilitators, Teaching Fellows and Tutors in the setting up of clinical skills training and teaching for Keele University medical students as part of the Undergraduate team.

You will support in the running and organisation of the clinical skills lab. This will include the setting up and tidying away of equipment for teaching sessions, cleaning, maintaining and ordering stock.

The role will include supporting the teaching of medical students and other healthcare professionals in simulated clinical environments. This ranges from low fidelity skills training to high fidelity real‑life emergency scenarios using both actors and sophisticated manikins to simulate high pressure environments. We will provide training in the use of simulation equipment and therefore, a good understanding of IT is necessary.

Experience
  • Recent clinical role with significant experience
  • Good organisational and administrative skills evidenced by previous experience
  • Experience of appropriately dealing with confidential and sensitive information
  • Knowledge of relevant procedures in a similar role
  • Evidence of showing willingness to go the "extra mile"
Qualifications and training
  • Good basic level of education including numeracy and literacy GCSEs to include Maths /English at good grades or equivalent qualifications
  • Competent in the use of Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel. Good IT skills
  • Previous work experience within the NHS & suitable qualification
  • Trained in the use of clinical skills equipment and/or Laerdal manikins
  • Previous use of high tech audio-visual equipment
  • Knowledge of Oracle ordering system
