Job Summary

Do you have experience working with Children, Young people and their families with mental health difficulties?

Are you looking to enhance your skills and work within a supportive and experienced team?

We are looking for a Clinical or counselling Psychologist to join the Bath and North East Somerset (BANES) Mental Health Support Team (MHST) on a part‑time basis.

You would join an MHST team of dedicated staff working in schools across BANES, offering Low Intensity CBT for mild/moderate anxiety and low mood, as well as a whole school approach.

You would provide 1:1 therapy for CYP with moderate mental health needs that exceed or do not fit with Low Intensity CBT, and deliver Clinical Skills and Case Management supervision and support to colleagues trained in Low Intensity CBT.

If you do not currently possess a post‑graduate certificate in supervision, you will be enrolled on a one‑year part‑time post‑graduate supervisory course to meet the requirements of this role.

You will also have the opportunity to contribute to exciting service developments, with close links to the University of Bath and University of Oxford Doctorate courses.

Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the Clinical Psychology Lead, Senior Wellbeing Practitioners, Supervisors, Education Mental Health Practitioners and Child Wellbeing Practitioners to assess, formulate, plan and deliver evidence‑based treatment for a wide variety of mental health presentations with varying complexity.
  • Deliver supervision to Senior Wellbeing Practitioners and Supervisors (training will be provided if you do not hold a current qualification).
  • Support the team with service delivery initiatives and projects where appropriate.
  • Provide specialist assessment and therapy to CYP with moderate to complex needs, while maintaining a high volume low intensity service.
  • Participate in whole‑school mental health initiatives and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Doctoral level training in clinical or counselling psychology, including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology.
  • Current HCPC registration as a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist.

Knowledge

  • Skills in complex psychological assessment, intervention, and management requiring sustained concentration.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to convey complex clinical information to clients, families, carers, and colleagues.
  • Ability to provide consultation to professional and non‑professional groups.

Experience

  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community, day services and inpatient settings.
  • Experience working with diverse client groups across the life course and of varying clinical severity, maintaining professionalism in challenging contexts.

Desirable

  • Experience running or co‑running groups.
  • Experience working with conditions relevant to the post.

Skills

  • Ability to teach and train others using complex multimedia materials suitable for presentations.
  • Positive approach to working with children, adolescents and families.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and listening skills.
Additional Requirements
