There are two hubs for renal medicine located at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB) and Birmingham Heartlands Hospital (BHH). We deliver comprehensive renal services across the city as well as regionally, and are committed to providing patient care and professional development of the highest standards. The UHB programme for end‑stage renal disease (ESRD) transplants over 170 people annually and provides haemodialysis for around 1,450 patients through dialysis facilities at both main hospital sites and 13 satellite units, as well as Home HD. Additionally, our peritoneal dialysis programme cares for around 250 patients and we follow up over 1,500 kidney transplant recipients.
The successful applicant will operate at the level of a Higher Specialist Trainee / Specialty Registrar and work closely with the 30‑strong team of Consultant Nephrologists and with deanery trainees rotating through the Department of Renal Medicine in order to support delivery of core clinical services. The specific areas of service where the post holder is deployed will reflect the evolving needs of the Department, subject to negotiation and the skill‑set of the appointee. We provide excellent opportunities for learning and professional development, although not accredited for training; the post holder will receive the department's full support to extend their knowledge and experience during their appointment at UHB. Posts are available at both QEHB and BHH and may involve rotation to expand training opportunities.
