East Midlands Care Matters Provides Residential Care for three children and young adults between ages of 12 and 21 who have a range of emotional and behavioural needs and may also have a learning disability or a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder

JOB PURPOSE AND CORE COMPETENCIES

The post holder is required to assist the Registered Manager to provide excellent, integrated, ethical and inclusive group living provision which meets the needs of individuals, safeguards and promotes the well being and development of children and young people and enables them to reach their full potential and develop socially, educationally and emotionally. The core competencies of this post are integrated and mapped within the mandatory units of the QCF level 3 Diploma in Residential Child Care. The post holder will be required to develop these on appointment by undertaking a personal development plan (PDP) which includes successfully achieving the statutory national induction programme and planning for continual professional development.

4 OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
  • a) Ensure confidentiality of information in respect of records maintained and tasks undertaken within Company Policy and as stipulated by the corporate information Security Strategy, the Data Protection Act and other legislation. This includes maintaining strict confidentiality in relation to personal information, including that of service users and other employees, which may become known to you in the course of your work or associated activities.
  • b) Be accountable for resources within the allocated budget of the Home's daily budget expenditure
  • c) Make effective and appropriate use of company email and other I.T. systems as appropriate to the post level. In accordance with company policy and procedures
  • d) Undertake training (physical interventions) and take responsibility for updating and maintaining your practice in this area
  • e) Be a good role model and guide, advise and mentor new and inexperienced team members during their induction and probation period
  • f) Undertake training and development opportunities to achieve optimum outcomes relevant to the individual Children
  • g) If you do not already hold the recognised qualification you must register for this course within timescales set during employment and achieve the QCF Diploma in Residential Child Care (where this is not previously held by the post holder).Carry out responsibilities with due regard to the non-smoking environment during work time in the building, grounds and company cars and company offices.
  • i) Comply with the requirements of the Placement Contracts to maintain the status of a preferred provider of specialist care services
4 SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES
  • a) This job description sets out the main duties of the post at the date when it was drawn up. Such duties may vary from time to time without changing the general character of the post or the level of responsibility entailed. Such variations are a common occurrence and cannot of themselves justify a reconsideration of the grading of the post. The above list is not exclusive or exhaustive and the post holder will be required to undertake such duties as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post.
  • b) All employees are required to be professional, co-operative and flexible within the role and responsibility of being a corporate parent. The post holder will be required to respond to situations that may arise within a 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, group care environment, similar to an everyday home. Examples which are not exclusive are: - participating in annual holidays, day trips and excursions, providing direct care due to unforeseen and planned circumstances, including sleep in duties paid at 60 a night as and when required and awake-night tasks
  • c) Must hold a valid clean driving licence and work to the policy of the use of company vehicles. Anyone under the age of 25 must have access to their own car and business insurance , as driving is an integral part of the role and carers must be aged 25 or over in order to drive the Company cars
  • d) This post requires an enhanced check from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and updates are applicable. This post will result in the post holder having substantial contact with children and young people and the Company therefore, requires that by virtue of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975, the Children's Act 1989 and/or the Police Act 1997, they reveal any criminal convictions, bind over orders or cautions, including those which would normally be regarded as spent.
  • e) The post holder is required to disclose any new offences pending and report any matter which may bring the company into disrepute to enable the company to respond to all matters in a timely fashion
  • f) The Company is entitled, under arrangement introduced for the protection of children, to check with the police for the existence and content of any criminal record of the successful applicant. Information received from the police will be kept in strict confidence and will be destroyed immediately after the selection process is completed. The disclosure of a criminal record will not debar the post holder from appointment unless the selection panel considers that the conviction renders them unsuitable for appointment. In making this decision the panel considers the nature of the offence, how long ago and the age of the post holder when it was committed and any other factors which may be relevant, including appropriate considerations in relation to the Company's Equal Opportunities Policy. Failure to declare a conviction may, however, disqualify the post holder from appointment, or result in summary dismissal if the discrepancy comes to light.
  • g) The post holder will work to a probationary period of nine months
  • h) As with any parent, domestic household tasks are integral to the role alongside being a positive role model to keeping a home clean and tidy.
