Vacancy: Locum Childcare Solicitor – London Local Authority – Remote working considered – Full Time

Venn Group is working in partnership with a forward-thinking and dedicated London Local Authority in their search for a Locum Childcare Solicitor for an initial 3 month assignment.

Details

Job Title: Childcare Solicitor

Hourly Rate: Negotiable depending upon experience

Length of Contract: 3 months initially, with high possibility for further extension

Working Pattern: Full time – 36 hours

Location: London Local Authority

Office Attendance: Weekly attendance preferred – fully remote applicants considered

Duties and Responsibilities

Supporting the Principal and Head of Legal, responsibilities will include :

  • Providing specialist legal advice and guidance on childcare law to Members, Officers, and partner agencies
  • Managing a diverse caseload of routine and complex matters relating to children and young people
  • Drafting and preparing legal documents, court submissions, and supporting materials for hearings
  • Conducting legal research and keep the Council informed of legislative and case law developments
  • Supporting senior colleagues on significant or politically sensitive cases within the childcare and safeguarding remit
  • Working collaboratively across departments to ensure timely, robust, and compliant decision-making
Preferred Experience
  • Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Fellow of CILEx entitled to practise in England and Wales
  • Proven experience advising on local authority duties and powers relating to children and young adults
  • Strong knowledge of childcare law, associated legislation, and case law
  • Awareness of local government processes and decision-making frameworks (desirable)
  • Excellent communication, drafting, and negotiation skills
  • Ability to work with tact and professionalism on sensitive issues
  • Comfortable operating within a digital and agile working environment
