Position Summary/ Department Summary

MICU/PIMCUChild Life Specialist

  • Participating in therapeutic activities and programs to meet patients' psychosocial and developmental needs, and facilitating adjustment to health care experiences for patients
  • Serving as member of multidisciplinary team
  • Providing support to patients and families from birth to young adult population.
Key Responsibilities
  • Common interventions include support for procedures, siblings, development, and bereavement
  • Providing coping support for patients with both short and long-term hospitalizations
  • Maintaining resources which include ordering and stocking unit areas
  • Delegating work assignments to volunteers and participates in clinical training of student interns.
Minimum Qualifications Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Child Development, Child Life, or a closely related field with a concentration in child life.
  • 600-hour Child Life internship under the supervision of a certified child life specialist.
  • General skills to resolve problems requiring the use of child development theory, professional child life principles, and experienced‑based knowledge.
  • Well-developed writing skills, and excellent communication skills including conflict resolution to effectively work as a team member.
  • Child Life Certification required within 1 year of hire
