Applications are invited from internal and external substantive Chief Inspectors on promotion, as well as transfer opportunities for external substantive Superintendents.

Applicants must be suitably experienced, competent and credible for immediate promotion to rank of Superintendent in the West Midlands Police.

In all but exceptional circumstances, candidates must have a minimum of 2 years' substantive promotion to the rank of Chief Inspector and have demonstrated effective leadership across two different command responsibilities at this rank.

The opportunities

West Midlands Police are looking for Superintendents in all areas of Crime, Operation and Local Policing. These roles all require 24/7 hour working.

  • Leading responses to major events and serious/complex investigations, setting strategic/tactical objectives and priorities.
  • Leading organisational change and embracing innovative ways of working to achieve our vision of being recognised as a police service that is big enough to cope with everything that is asked of us, whilst showing we are small enough to care about the things that really matter to our communities.
  • Delivering performance improvements across the organisation, driving professionalism and managing strategic risk on behalf of the organisation.

Application Assessment Question

As a Superintendent, how are you going to improve the service and performance of West Midlands Police. (750 words). Please attach this in the section titled, 'Supporting Documents'.

The Selection Process:
  • Application form questionnaire and written evidence submission. This will be used for shortlisting
  • Short listed candidates will be invited to a People Panel which is made up from our community partners.
  • The main interview will be in front of the Deputy Chief Constable and Chief Constable which will last approximately 1 hour.
  • Candidates will be asked to deliver a 10-minute presentation followed by probing questions, and an interview.
