Job Description

We're supporting a cutting-edge research programme focused on the safety characteristics of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAFs) that meet Jet A-1 specifications. This role will suit a research-minded engineer or scientist with a strong background in fuel chemistry, combustion, or safety analysis.

Your main responsibilities will be:
  • Conducting a detailed literature review on flammability characteristics of hydrocarbon fuels
  • Investigating whether a predictive relationship exists between flash point and flammability limits (UEL/LEL)
  • Comparing SAF properties (including paraffinic and synthetic fuels) against conventional kerosene (Jet A-1)
  • Summarising findings in clear, evidence-based technical reports
  • Making recommendations for how these relationships may inform future safety assessments or certification standards
Qualifications

Experience, skills and qualifications required:
  • Degree (or higher) in Chemical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Combustion Science, or a related discipline
  • Experience working with fuel properties, flammability analysis, or combustion safety
  • Strong technical writing and literature review skills
  • Understanding of SAFs, synthetic fuels, or fuel certification is beneficial but not essential
