A leading local government authority in the UK is seeking a Charging & Recovery Officer to manage financial assessments and recovery processes. You will engage with customers, issue invoices, and ensure compliance with legislation. The ideal candidate will possess strong numeracy and literacy skills, and a customer-focused approach. As a Charging & Recovery Officer, you will manage the financial assessment, charging, and recovery processes for customers receiving residential or community-based services. This includes:
You will work closely with colleagues across the company, attend team meetings, and occasionally assist with project work. Flexibility and adherence to core values, equality, and health and safety standards are essential.
Knowledge & Understanding
Good numeracy and literacy skills to interpret and process financial information.
Awareness of Department of Health legislation and welfare benefits related to charging for care services.
Skills & Abilities
Ability to organise and prioritise workloads, working independently and as part of a team.
Strong customer focus, with excellent listening and interpersonal skills.
Ability to communicate confidently and sensitively, adapting style to suit different audiences.
Competence in MS Word, Excel, and experience with financial systems and digital platforms.
Ability to adapt to new technologies and ways of working.
Personal Qualities
Highly motivated, self-disciplined, and able to work under pressure.
Empathy and professionalism when dealing with elderly or disabled citizens.
Tolerance and willingness to help, ensuring a positive customer experience.
Experience
Providing advice and information to customers and external organisations.
Working in a team environment and managing diverse workloads.
Using IT systems to produce clear, accurate information.
Other Requirements
A DBS check for regulated activity.
Willingness to work flexibly to meet deadlines.
