Job description
Overview

Beauchamp City Sixth Form – 27.5 hours per week, 38.6 weeks per year (TTO plus 3 days). Grade 3 Point 3 (£13,428). We are looking to appoint a dynamic and enthusiastic Catering Assistant to assist and promote the provision of an effective, efficient and healthy food service for the school and its users. The role offers the opportunity to work with inspiring young people and support our College as a Catering Assistant.

Beauchamp City Sixth Form is a large college committed to continuous learning. All staff are expected to engage in continuing professional learning and development and, in common with all who work in the college, the post holder will also be expected to act as an ambassador for the college by supporting our values and expectations of learning. The candidate will be a significant presence and role model for pupils and staff, follow and enact all relevant policies, procedures and guidelines, contribute to college development through team planning and review meetings, participate in the college’s performance management scheme, and be familiar with and adhere to all Trust policies, particularly health and safety.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Under the general direction of the Catering Manager/Supervisor, assist in the preparation and cooking of meals.
  • Serve meals/snacks to students and school staff.
  • Undertake all cleaning of kitchen equipment as directed by the Catering Manager/Supervisor.
  • Report breakdowns of equipment and structural repairs, including food safety hazards and accidents to the Catering Manager/Supervisor.
  • Assist covering the food tills at break and lunch times.
  • Attend training sessions as specified during term time.
  • Attend and assist in cleaning the kitchen and surroundings on the days specified out of term time cleaning days.
  • Undertake all specified duties in compliance with relevant Food Safety and Health and Safety Legislation, and respond to future amendments; take all reasonable precautions and exercise due diligence to avoid breaches of legislation.
  • Provide catering service for out-of-hours functions such as parent evenings, induction evenings, organised functions, governors meeting and other events (if required).
  • Safe disposal of food waste in a hygienic manner.
  • Ensure the safety of others at all times.
  • Ensure all heavy lifting duties are completed in accordance with Manual Handling Regulations and in line with training provided.
  • Wear protective clothing and footwear provided, suitable for the work being carried out.
  • Any other duty as required by line manager.
Safeguarding and Legal Requirements

This post is eligible for a DBS check under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (i.e. it involves certain activities in relation to children and/or adults) and is defined as regulated activity under Part 1 of the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006. It requires an enhanced criminal records check for a regulated activity (including a barred list check). Applicants will be required to undertake pre‑employment checks, such as an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check. Applicants who will be undertaking early and/or later years childcare (or the management of such childcare) will need to complete a declaration that neither they nor anyone in the same household is a disqualified person under the Childcare (Disqualification) Regulations 2009.
