Wigan & Leigh College is seeking a passionate, experienced or from industry expert for the position of Carpentry and Joinery Trainer/Assessor to join our high-performing Construction team. If you’re committed to raising standards in the industry and want to help shape the future workforce, this is an exciting opportunity to make a real impact.

As a Carpentry and Joinery Assessor, you’ll work directly with apprentices on the Level 2 and Level 3, supporting them through workplace assessments, progress reviews, and individualised action planning. You’ll play a key role in developing their skills and confidence, setting SMART targets and, where necessary, delivering EPA sessions to help apprentices achieve success.

You’ll also contribute to developing our provision in collaboration with employer partners and awarding bodies, ensuring we meet the current and future demands of the industry.

Responsibilities
  • Support apprentices on Level 2 and Level 3 through workplace assessments, progress reviews and action planning.
  • Deliver and guide learning activities that develop carpentry and joinery skills, ensuring SMART targets are set for progression.
  • Where required, deliver EPA sessions to support end-point assessment readiness.
  • Collaborate with employer partners and awarding bodies to develop and improve provision to meet industry demands.
What we’re looking for
  • A recognised qualification in bricklaying with relevant industry experience.
  • Ideally, experience with e-portfolio systems and knowledge of current construction standards and developments.
Desirable but not essential
  • Understanding of sustainability practices and modern construction methods.
  • Experience in preparing learners for end-point assessment.
  • A qualified assessor (TAQA, A1, V1 or equivalent).
