Job summary

Job description

Carpenter
Permanent

Up to £30,162 per annum

Spinwell is recruiting for a Carpenter for an excellent opportunity within the public sector.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE CARPENTER
  • Interpret and work from all instructions, drawings and specifications appropriate to his trade without supervision.
  • Use complex carpentry equipment and machinery as required in accordance with all legislative and statutory guidance.
  • Carry out new work, installation and refurbishment work throughout the Trust premises.
  • Carry out glazing repairs as and when required.
  • Carry out installation and repairs to metal and fibre ceilings.
  • Have an understanding of the relationship of other craft persons work.
  • Shared responsibility for carpenter apprentice.
  • Learn new techniques with training as necessary.
  • Carry out planned preventative inspections in accordance with Trust and statutory guidance.
  • Communicate with ward managers, department managers, patients and visitors and other Trust staff.
  • To be aware of patient and visitors’ confidentiality when working in clinical areas.
  • A proportion of work will be carried out at height and in inclement weather.
  • Actively participate in the operation of the Addenbrookes Maintenance Management System including completion of all paperwork required of the scheme. (Including completion of all job dockets and timesheets).
  • Completes all job tickets from the computer aided facilities management software
  • It is the responsibility of the post holder to ensure that all duties are carried out to the highest possible standard, and in accordance with current quality initiatives within the area of work
  • The post holder is responsible for data quality and complying with the policies, procedures and accountability arrangements throughout the Trust for maintaining accuracy and probity in the recording of the Trust’s activities.
  • Any reasonable management request which may be arise from time to time.
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE OF THE CARPENTER

All carpenters will have one of the following additional skills:

  • Safe erection of Tower Scaffolding
  • Safe use of MEWP/SAE (high level access system)
  • Safe use of Building Maintenance Unit
Qualifications

The postholder must be able to demonstrate competency and qualifications in:

  • Completed full Carpentry / Joinery Apprenticeship
  • Completed City & Guilds trade certificate
  • Completed NVQ level 2 trade certificate or equivalent level of knowledge.

This post is subject to conditional requirement that the appointee obtains within three months of appointment the following training requirements.

  • Moving and Handling
  • Customer Service Skills
  • Safe use of ladders & steps
  • Safe use and theory of woodworking machinery and handheld power tools in compliance with PUWER regulations
  • Use of departmental safe systems to work
  • Basic electrical safe isolation

The post holder will be expected to lift and move heavy objects on a regular basis and must be able to cope with the physical aspects of the job. Must be able to work with minimum amount of supervision and be a reasonable character.
