Job description

Successful manufacturing engineering business require a Buyer. Applicants should be motivated, self-starter procurement professionals looking to add strategic value as a Buyer. Previous MRP/ERP and supplier management experience, advantageous.

The Buyer will work within a team of Buyers and Senior Buyers, focusing predominately on indirect areas of spend; packaging, consumables, facilities, office supplies, PPE and non-production (chemicals, glues, solvents) items. Previous experience with these commodity areas would not be required. Buyers are given autonomy to own their areas of spend; selecting suppliers, negotiating and managing the onward relationship.

Specific duties of the Buyer include:

  • Supply market intelligence and supplier selection activities, particularly in the areas of packaging and consumables
  • Stakeholder partnering
  • Running tenders and procurement events
  • Supplier Relationship Management at a strategic level driving collaboration and innovation, and also operationally against day-to-day KPIs such as OTD/OTIF
  • Maintenance of procurement department data in MRP system
  • Contribute to the development of new procurement & supply chain processes and procedures
Buyer applicants should meet the following criteria:

  • Previous procurement experience as a; Buyer, Junior Buyer, Assistant Buyer or Senior Buyer
  • Either experience, or comfort working within a manufacturing or engineering business
  • Experience with indirect spend areas, or a desire to manage indirect procurement particularly in regards to consumables, packaging and non-production items
  • Ability to demonstrate success in; cost saving, supplier negotiations, improving supplier performance
  • Self-motivated, dedicated and positive approach to procurement
