Job description

The role

Gateley Vinden is seeking a full-time Senior Building Surveyor to join our expanding Manchester team. The role involves primarily working in Manchester and surrounding areas. It offers a dynamic and varied workload, supporting the Surveying team on projects including insurance work, mainly for commercial buildings of all construction types. This position is ideal for a candidate with ambition, drive, and a passion for customer service, embodying professionalism and strong interpersonal skills.

You will be responsible for:

  1. Inspecting and advising on design, construction, maintenance, repair, and refurbishment of buildings and sites.
  2. Conducting acquisition surveys, condition reports, measured surveys, and defect investigations.
  3. Preparing reports, schedules of works, and work specifications.
  4. Designing and overseeing works using recognized building contracts and current technical standards.
  5. Managing large projects independently with comprehensive knowledge of professional consultancy services.
  6. Understanding and applying relevant legislation such as health and safety, party wall, building regulations, and planning.
  7. Promoting the company’s services to secure projects and enhance the Smithers Purslow brand.
  8. Providing supervision and support to APC candidates to foster knowledge and understanding.
  9. Complying with company procedures, personnel policies, and Health & Safety regulations.

The person

Ideal candidates will demonstrate:

  • MRICS accreditation or the desire to attain it.
  • Experience and extensive knowledge of consulting engineering, surveying, architectural & planning practices, supported by awareness of current statutory requirements and technical publications.
  • Experience in defect diagnosis and report writing.
  • Preferably, experience in insurance repair projects.
  • Negotiation, supervisory, and leadership experience.
  • Ability to work within deadlines and budgets on large-scale projects.
  • Understanding of CDM Regs 2015, Party Wall, and Building Regulations legislation.
  • Strong mathematical, scientific, and IT skills, with methodical problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Flexible and adaptable work attitude.
