Job summary

A leading education recruitment agency is seeking a committed Behaviour & Pastoral Mentor in Nottingham. You will support young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, delivering tailored mentoring sessions to help them re-engage with education. Ideal candidates will have a strong background in education or youth work, with an understanding of SEMH strategies and the ability to build positive relationships. Progress Teachers are proud to be working with an Alternative Provision in Nottingham to appoint a committed and compassionate Behaviour & Pastoral Mentor. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who thrives on supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs to re‑engage with education and develop the skills they need to succeed.

You’ll play a vital role in helping pupils overcome personal and behavioural challenges, promoting positive choices, emotional regulation and long‑term personal growth.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Deliver targeted 1:1 and small group mentoring sessions for pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs
  • Act as a primary point of support for selected students, maintaining regular contact with families and professionals
  • Build trusted, positive relationships that raise confidence, self‑worth and motivation
  • Track and monitor behaviour trends, supporting effective intervention planning
  • Support pupils through reintegration into mainstream settings or transitions to new placements
  • Contribute to a strong pastoral culture through safeguarding, wellbeing and emotional regulation strategies
  • Maintain clear and accurate records of interventions, outcomes and next steps
What We're Looking For
  • Proven experience working with young people in education, AP, youth work or pastoral‑based roles
  • A strong understanding of SEMH, behaviour strategies and child development
  • A relevant Level 3 qualification (education, youth work, psychology or similar) is desirable
  • A calm, patient and solutions‑focused approach to challenging situations
  • Strong communication and relationship‑building skills
  • Awareness of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities (training provided)
  • Experience working alongside external agencies such as CAMHS, Social Services or SEND teams (an advantage)
