Responsibilities
  • Provide mental health assessment and short‑term intervention for adults presenting to RUH.

  • Initiate and participate in teaching and educational programmes for nursing, medical and other staff, including pre‑ and post‑registration nursing students.
  • Provide specialist psychosocial assessments for patients following episodes of self‑harm, with high‑level risk assessment and timely referral to secondary mental health, social and voluntary services.
  • Deliver flexible, needs‑based follow‑up for patients after self‑harm episodes or other acute presentations.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, carers and primary/secondary health services, providing liaison and feedback to clinical staff.
  • Promote a positive attitude and supportive culture across hospital, modelling clinical excellence and high standards of nursing practice.
  • In the absence of the team leader, take overall responsibility for the service, ensuring compliance with local and professional standards.
  • Supervise, monitor and appraise the performance of registered and unregistered staff within scope of responsibility.
  • Facilitate and participate in clinical projects, meetings, liaison and negotiation with other staff.
  • Engage in quality assurance initiatives and clinical governance, focusing on patient/user‑focused services and user/carer feedback.
  • Provide clinical supervision to colleagues and students when required.
Qualifications & Experience

Applicants should be registered practitioners (RMN, OT or Social Worker) with an interest and experience in working with older adults presenting with cognitive impairment or delirium, and complex physical health needs. Newly qualified social workers are welcome to apply; successful candidates will commence at Band 5 and may progress to Band 6 following completion of their ASYE.
