Job summary

The post holder will liaise with key members of the multidisciplinary team and service users. Responsible for all aspects of patient care including assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of direct patient care with supervision from senior staff. Support the Charge Nurse/Senior Sister to monitor safety and quality of care for patients. In the absence of the Junior Sister/Charge Nurse, responsible for day-to-day management of the ward. Manage a group of Health Care Assistants and assign delegated tasks. Ensure mandatory training and appraisal requirements for Health Care Assistants. Promote positive service incorporating patients’ feedback and act as an effective role model.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain professional behaviour and uphold the trust values.
  • Undertake unsupervised assessment of patient care needs and develop evidence‑based care plans.
  • Adhere to trust policies for nursing procedures and documentation.
  • Collect and provide data for audits and monitoring of CQC standards.
  • Contribute to evidence‑based guidelines relating to speciality.
Qualifications
  • Essential: NMC registered, Infection control training, Evidence of recent professional development.
  • Desirable: Post qualification in relevant speciality, Recognised teaching or mentorship qualification.
Experience
  • Post registration experience in an acute hospital setting.
  • Awareness of current professional nursing issues.
  • Sound knowledge of infection control standards and audit/quality importance.
  • Ability to plan, prioritise workload and negotiate communication.
  • Team working and risk management improvement knowledge.
  • Knowledge of ward audit requirements and safety standards.
