The Physician's Assistant role will function at a higher competency level than that of other Health Care Support workers. They will actively participate in supporting the junior doctors in the delivery of treatment to patients on the Surgical wards at Watford General Hospital. They will provide a seamless service for patients with close supervision from a registered practitioner.

The Physician's Assistant will provide general/specific duties as specified below for a specific patient group demonstrating a stated level of competence to participate in delivery of high-quality care to adult patients.
Appropriate local training and assessment will be provided to confirm that skills are at required levels.
The post holder will work in support of registered nurses, doctors and allied health professionals.
It is anticipated that this role will continue to develop through the acquisition of further skills, knowledge and competencies to be determined within the clinical team with the focus on patient needs.
In order to facilitate their development, the Physician's Assistant will be assigned a Consultant Surgeon as mentor who will take responsibility for ongoing professional development in this role.

Working hours: Mon Friday; 8am 4pm.
Attend ward rounds with consultant and middle grade doctors to identify and carry out tasks to support delivery of treatment such as phlebotomy, ordering of radiological investigations, insertion of intravenous cannulae, performing ECG recordings and organising specialist tests and/or referrals.
Attend Board Rounds in order to identify and carry out relevant administrative tasks and to take daily handover of work for the day.
To work flexibly to support the teams as they vary in numbers with rota commitments.
Maintain clear handover information about the patients with whom they are involved.
To work effectively as a team member. Take part in departmental teaching, governance and audit activities.
