A leading automotive firm in the UK seeks an experienced Automotive Technical Author to develop and maintain parts catalogues. The role requires collaborating with various teams and ensuring all documentation is precise and user-friendly. The ideal candidate must have strong writing skills and proficiency with CAD tools. This position offers hybrid flexibility and is set outside of IR35 regulations.

Overview

Automotive Technical Author - Parts Catalogue

Location: Crewe - Hybrid (3 days on-site, parking available nearby)

Contract Duration: Until 26th June 2029

IR35 Status: Outside IR35

Pay Rate: To be discussed on application

Responsibilities
  • Parts Catalogue: Develop and maintain automotive parts catalogues aligned with new product launches and model year updates.
  • Interpret BoM, Product Description Books (PDBs), Technical Product Descriptions (TPDs), Engineering Change documentation, and CAD data.
  • Ensure content is clear, user-friendly, brand-aligned, and technically accurate.
Quality & Collaboration
  • Ensure all documentation meets internal quality standards and legislative requirements.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Product Planning, Legal, and Marketing teams.
  • Support internal and external communications to promote Aftersales initiatives.
Key Competencies & Experience
  • Solid understanding of vehicle and part architecture with proven experience in technical authorship.
  • Ability to create concise, precise documentation for varied audiences.
  • Proficiency with digital platforms, data management systems, and external publication/catalogue tools.
  • Hands-on experience with CATIA or other CAD tools for technical illustrations (e.g., Catia Composer, ISO Draw, Adobe Illustrator).
  • Familiarity with VW Group systems and automotive Aftersales practices.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills; EPIS knowledge advantageous but not essential.
Qualifications
  • Strong content writing skills with the ability to structure technical information effectively.
  • Ability to arrange text, images, and illustrations for documentation.
  • Essential understanding of automotive parts and cataloguing processes.
