Overview

Job Specification - Automation Build Technician

Location: Wrexham, North Wales

Contract: Permanent

Salary: £31,000 - £35,000 (with opportunities for progression)

Hours: Monday-Thursday, 08:00-17:15, Friday 08:00-16:15 (9-day fortnight, with 21-23 non-working Fridays per year)

Key Responsibilities
  • Assemble and wire automation equipment and control panels to engineering specifications
  • Read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics, drawings, and BOMs
  • Perform functional testing, troubleshooting, and fault-finding on builds
  • Support on-site installation and commissioning activities when required
  • Ensure all work is completed to high standards of safety, quality, and documentation
  • Work closely with design and engineering teams, providing feedback to improve efficiency and reliability
Requirements
  • Proven experience in automation equipment build, or electrical/mechanical assembly within an industrial setting
  • Strong ability to interpret technical drawings and wiring diagrams
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and high attention to detail
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently
  • Comfortable working under pressure to meet project deadlines
  • Relevant technical qualification (minimum Level 3 NVQ, ONC, HNC, or equivalent in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering)
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for installations and project support
Desirable Skills
  • Experience with pneumatic systems and industrial robotics
  • Knowledge of PLCs, sensors, actuators, and control systems
  • Familiarity with CE marking requirements and safety standards
  • Understanding of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement
