Qualifications

  • Good understanding of relevant British Standards and Industry Standards.
  • HNC/HND or equivalent suitable experience, such as EngTech MIET.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of maintaining LV Electrical and Control & Instrumentation equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Set and manage standards for competence of safety appointed personnel.
  • Review safe systems of work for compliance.
  • Provide advice on implementation of engineering safety.

AWE is now recruiting for an Authorising Engineer to join our Engineering Safety Organisation to provide complex professional engineering judgement for the effective implementation of technical engineering safety.

We are willing to consider Authorising Engineers with an Electrical OR Mechanical engineering background.

Location: Aldermaston, Berkshire

Package: £44,950 - £70,000 (depending on your suitability and level of experience)

What will you be responsible for?
  • Setting, managing, and assessing standards for competence of Engineering Safety Appointed people such as Authorised Persons and Nominated Persons

  • Reviewing suitability of safe systems of work for maintenance delivery by AWE and contract personnel for compliance with relevant regulations

  • Control and review legislative records pertaining to engineering safety

  • Provide advice on the safe and effective implementation of engineering safety at AWE

  • Provide oversight of supply chain delivery of engineering safety

  • Provide technical support in resolving complex and multifaceted issues with regard to the Estate

  • Optimise the delivery of Engineering Safety Organisation

  • Make judgement on the safe and effective implementation of engineering safety within area of authority

  • Influence and contribute to the development of AWE engineering safety policies

  • Approve live working

  • Maintaining and promoting high personal standards in environment, safety, health, security and quality and be a great team player

What will you need to be considered?
  • Good understanding of relevant British Standards and Industry Standards

  • HNC/HND or equivalent suitable experience, such as EngTech MIET

  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience of maintaining LV Electrical, Control & Instrumentation equipment, such as power supply, telecoms, data centres and information systems architecture, or mechanical building services, HVAC systems, gas systems

  • Has held or holds an Authorising Engineer / Authorised Person appointment (AUENG/MS1/APLV/AP11/AP12/APMPS or equivalent)

  • The ability to deliver engineering across an equivalent manufacturing and/or research environment comprising a range of infrastructure facilities and associated manufacturing and/or research plant and equipment.

  • Experience of working on large civil construction projects - desirable

  • Experience of identifying, managing and reporting on engineering safety risks to senior management

  • Previous experience of leading the delivery of engineering services across the life of an asset

Candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role.
