Job description
Overview

We have two vacancies for Associate Practitioner posts available for candidates with relevant experience in Histopathology to work within the Cellular Pathology Department at Royal Bolton Hospital. One permanent and one fixed term/secondment. The successful candidates will form part of a team which prides itself on consistently meeting the RCPath turnaround time targets. The post holder will rotate throughout the department and will be actively involved in assisting dissections as well as undertaking embedding, microtomy and special stains.

Please note these posts are not intended for trainee BMS candidates looking to complete the registration portfolio.

Role and Responsibilities
  • Routine processing of histopathology tissue specimens and non-gynae samples.
  • Maintain all departmental protocols in line with ISO 15189 standards.
  • Work as part of a team of scientific and ancillary staff to ensure quality of all tests using internal and external quality schemes.
  • Perform specialist automated and manual tests throughout the department and be involved in auditing processes, reagent control, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Rotate through all sections of the department including microtomy, embedding and special stains.
  • Assist dissection/specimen reception and perform non-gynae cytology sample preparation techniques.
  • Assist the specimen reception team and embed/section PM and surgical samples; perform microtomy and special stains; equipment maintenance and data logging/archiving as required.
