Job description
Overview

Location: Hybrid working with a minimum of 3 days a week in-person from Peterborough or London with occasional travel to one of our sites.

Ready to help shape the UK’s water future? We’re looking for a motivated and ambitious Assistant Project Manager, minimum 2 years of major infrastructure experience, to support one of the largest and most complex infrastructure programmes the UK water sector has seen in decades.

If you’re passionate about delivering major, complex projects in the water or infrastructure sector, thrive on challenge and change, and are ready to take accountability for shaping critical national infrastructure, this is your chance to make a lasting impact.

The Reservoirs Programme focuses on two new, large-scale raw water reservoirs — the Fens Reservoir and the Lincs Reservoir — along with all the associated infrastructure. Serving the East of England and East Midlands, this is the largest and most complex programme of work ever undertaken by Anglian Water — securing sustainable water supplies for generations to come.

This nationally significant programme involves securing planning approval for each scheme via the Development Consent Order (DCO) process, as well as developing the procurement and delivery strategy for future licenced Infrastructure Providers (IPs), who will ultimately design, build, finance, and operate the reservoir systems.

As an Assistant Project Manager, you’ll work with the Project Manager across all stages of the project lifecycle, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery against schedule and budget. You\'ll also manage key work packages yourself (up to ~£5m), gaining hands-on experience and visibility on a truly career-defining programme.

What We’re Looking For
  • A quick learner with strong IT skills
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic, and full of initiative
  • Excels at solving complex challenges and driving projects forward
  • Able to thrive working remotely with a flexible, can-do attitude
  • Passionate about infrastructure, sustainability, and making a difference
What You’ll Be Doing
  • Project Management Support the development of a major reservoir project by assisting with cost control, scheduling, risk management, reporting, and process improvement. You’ll help keep the programme on track across all phases of the project
  • Stakeholder Management Work closely with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring alignment with engagement strategies. You’ll contribute to communications, reporting, and coordination across departments and Water Partnerships.
  • Regulatory Compliance Assist in meeting regulatory requirements, including RAPID and DWI/EA consultations. Help prepare key documentation and support engagement efforts to secure stakeholder confidence in project solutions.
  • Governance Support governance processes, helping to prepare reports, track approvals, and assist with board-level updates and change control. You’ll play a key role in maintaining compliance with Anglian Water’s project and contract management standards.
What does it take to be an Assistant Project Manager?
  • Background in infrastructure development
  • Experience in the water sector (desirable)
  • APM-PFQ or equivalent
  • Familiarity with health & safety standards
  • Strong project management and organisational skills
  • Clear and confident communicator, able to build relationships and influence
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and able to work independently
  • Valid driving licence
As a Valued Employee, You’ll Be Entitled To
  • Personal private health care
  • 26 days annual leave – rising with length of service
  • Flexible working
  • Competitive pension scheme – Anglian Water double-matches your contributions up to 6%
  • Bonus scheme
  • Flexible benefits to support your wellbeing and lifestyle
Why join us?
  • Play a key role on one of the most ambitious infrastructure projects in the UK
  • Gain deep exposure to regulatory processes, planning law, and high-value procurement
  • Fast-track your project management career in a high-profile environment
  • Work with industry-leading experts and shape the future of water resilience in the UK

If you’re ready to accelerate your career while making a real difference, we’d love to hear from you.
