Assistant Pastoral Lead

St. Margaret Ward Catholic Academy We are hoping to appoint an outstanding individual to join our exceptional pastoral team. The successful candidate will work alongside the existing team of Heads of Year and Pastoral Leaders supporting students with day to day lives in school, enhancing behaviour for learning, attendance and wellbeing. The role involves working closely with families and carers.

Role Overview

Responsible for enhancing the behaviour, attendance and wellbeing of students.

  • Assist in managing student behaviour with Heads of Year and Pastoral Leaders
  • Foster a climate of praise and celebration
  • Assess individual student needs relating to attendance and wellbeing
  • Advise on day to day management of student behaviour, producing whole school plans and initiatives
  • Manage a caseload of students and clear communication with staff, families and agencies
  • Use data to analyse pupil engagement and propose suitable strategies
  • Supervise students in the Zacchaeus Centre on a part time basis as needed
  • Meet with families to improve student attitudes where necessary
  • Promote inclusivity and widening participation in line with the Academy’s Equality and Diversity policy
  • Carry out any additional duties as requested by the Principal
  • Flexible hours when required
Key Requirements
Essential Qualities

Education and Qualifications

  • GCSE English and Mathematics Grade C or above (or equivalent)

Proven Experience and Knowledge

  • Experience directly supporting families and children under 18
  • Knowledge of statutory requirements for young people
  • Experience with Children’s Services
  • Experience coaching, mentoring or supporting young people/families
  • Knowledge of current Ofsted Inspection Regime
Desirable Qualities

Skills and Abilities

  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, strong record keeping and attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal skills – ability to build rapport and trust
