A local government organization in Burton upon Trent is seeking an Assistant Accountant to provide financial support in the Children Family & Education Directorate. The successful candidate will work with budget holders and improve financial reporting tools. Essential skills include balance sheet reconciliation and proficiency with accounting software. This role offers full-time employment with a salary range of £32,061 - £35,412.

You will provide wide-ranging financial support across all aspects of the team and the wider finance function and support the Children Family & Education Directorate at Wirral Council offering the opportunity to work with a variety of stakeholders including budget holders, Head Teachers and School Support Staff.
The schools Statutory Finance Team is responsible for managing both the government funded schools budget (Dedicated Schools Grant) and the council-funded budget for the Education function.
Working alongside a Finance Business Partner (FBP) the Assistant Accountant will provide timely financial information to budget holders enabling informed decision-making and supporting the achievement of their objectives. You will assist the Finance Manager and FBP in developing management reporting and budget monitoring processes with an emphasis on improving the quality of financial information systems and reporting tools whilst supporting the day-to‑day administrative and transactional aspects of finance as this is a key responsibility of the post.
You will be passionate about improving public sector services, be a team player and have strong communication skills as the role involves liaising with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
Experience working as a finance specialist is essential; however prior knowledge of schools or education is not required.
