Assembly Manufacturing Engineer

Location: North West - Engineering Centre of Excellence

We are currently seeking an Assembly Manufacturing Engineer to join a well-established UK engineering manufacturer operating within a complex, regulated production environment.

About the business

This organisation has over a century of engineering heritage and is a recognised leader in the delivery of high-integrity mechanical and structural systems for specialist vehicle and defence-related applications. Working closely with international partners and UK-based programmes, the business has built a strong reputation for technical excellence, quality and innovation.

Employees are central to its success, supported by a highly skilled workforce across Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations, Project Management and Business Support. Continued investment and programme growth at its North West Engineering Centre of Excellence has created this opportunity.

About the role

The primary purpose of this role is to develop and embed Assembly, Integration and Test (AIT) capability within a major vehicle programme. The role will play a key part in transferring proven AIT and production practices from an established European parent organisation into UK operations.

You will act as a focal point for manufacturing engineering within the AIT area, supporting production ramp-up and the transition into stable series manufacture.

Key responsibilities
  • Transferring AIT production knowledge, processes and best practice from an established parent operation into UK manufacturing
  • Acting as the shopfloor focal point for manufacturing engineering and tooling within the AIT area
  • Supporting operators through hands‑on guidance, process clarification and technical problem‑solving
  • Leading structured problem‑solving and continuous improvement activities during ramp‑up and steady‑state production
  • Coordinating cross‑functional teams to optimise cost, performance and operating standards, reducing waste through line balancing and lean principles
  • Providing design‑for‑manufacture input during early product development and supporting the implementation of engineering changes
  • Developing robust, safe and efficient manufacturing processes that meet quality, cost and environmental requirements
  • Creating and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures and work balance charts
  • Supporting project management activities across cross‑functional teams
  • Ensuring compliance with Environmental, Health & Safety and manufacturing quality standards and procedures
What we're looking for
  • Degree-level qualification in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Alternatively, HND or Advanced/Higher Apprenticeship in Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering
  • Technical capability developed within complex engineering or manufacturing environments
  • Proven track record of manufacturing excellence
  • Experience in a similar manufacturing engineering role
  • Understanding of Engineering Change processes
  • Experience operating within large or complex organisations
  • Ability to structure Bills of Materials from drawing through to manufacture
  • Strong IT skills (standard MS Office applications)
  • Working knowledge of Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES)
  • Experience of vehicle build programmes (advantageous)
  • Experience leading practical problem‑solving activities and teams
What's on offer
  • Competitive salary
  • Enhanced pension scheme
  • Early finish on Fridays
  • Life assurance
  • Company sick pay scheme (increasing with service)
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Additional holidays and long-service rewards
  • Wellbeing initiatives
  • Cycle to Work scheme
  • Free on‑site parking and EV charging
