EdEx is working exclusively with a mainstream secondary school in Merton to find two Teaching Assistants (Aspiring Speech and Language Therapist - Teaching Assistant) to work in the school's Speech, Communication, and Language provision, supporting children with various needs including Speech and Language, Communication, Social, Autism (Verbal and Non‑Verbal) needs & more!

What makes this opportunity exciting?
  • Opportunity to take part and lead specialist interventions in Lego Therapy, Speech and Language, Zones of Regulation & more!
  • Work closely with specialist teachers, therapists & psychologists to best support secondary‑aged pupils with various needs.
  • Receive training and support from day one – no day is the same, working across Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 5.
  • Support various students with wide‑ranging needs 1‑2‑1 and in small groups, inside and outside classrooms.
  • Provides experience for graduates considering a career in Speech and Language Therapy, Psychotherapy, Educational Psychology, Clinical Psychology, preparing for a PhD or MA/MSc, or even Assistant Psychologist roles with the NHS.
What experience will you need?
  • A graduate with a 1st Class or 2:1 – subject isn't a barrier, ideally from a reputable university.
  • Good A‑levels and GCSEs – including English at GCSE.
  • Previous experience supporting children, young people or adolescents – essential. This can be tutoring, nannying, babysitting, volunteering or personal experience.
  • Genuine passion for supporting young people with barriers to learning.
  • An inquisitive, warm and nurturing personality.
  • Must be able to speak confidently and calmly.

Role Details
  • Teaching assistant – supporting various needs and SP&L.
  • Monday to Friday – no weekends.
  • Typical school hours: 8:30 am – 4:00 pm.
  • £105 – £115 per day, paid weekly (term‑time only).
  • Long‑term contract – at least for an academic year.
