Qualifications

  • Mechanical engineering experience preferably in Maintainability, Operating or Training discipline.
  • Maintenance and/or logistics support to complex systems and interfaces to technical publications.
  • Ability to read and understand technical manuals for complex systems.
  • Hands on support or maintenance of Defence equipment.

Salary:

£47,017 + (depending on experience)

What you’ll be doing:
  • Responsible for performing build, survey and maintenance tasks on a range of different gun/vehicle systems to meet contracted Supportability deliverables to time, cost and quality targets.
  • Performing removal and fitment of components and modifications to gun systems to support design team colleagues with ongoing tasks and procurement queries.
  • Provide advice and assistance with reviewing, updating and implementing changes to technical manuals and engineering drawings.
  • Provide support and training to design team colleagues on new, existing and modified designs to a range of gun systems or maintenance equipment.
  • Support trials of equipment both in house or at various sites in the UK and Overseas to validate new designs and equipment updates.
  • Representing WSUK at training events on Artillery Equipment in the UK and Overseas and to deliver Artillery Equipment Training Courses as required.
  • Support management and maintenance of a dedicated shop floor area including tools, equipment and workshop consumables.
Your skills and experiences:
Essential:
  • Hands on mechanical engineering experience, preferably in a Maintainability, Operating or Training discipline.
  • Experience in maintenance and/or logistics support to complex systems and interfaces to technical publications.
  • Ability to read, understand and use technical manuals for complex systems (e.g. vehicles, engines or industrial machinery).
  • Experience in hands on support or maintenance of Defence equipment or similarly complex equipment.
Desirable:
  • Knowledge and development of Army Equipment Support Publications (AESP) and Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) processes within a support contract.
  • Qualified manual Mill and/or Lathe operator.

The Weapon Systems UK Engineering team:

As part of BAE Systems Platforms and Services sector, Weapon Systems (UK) designs, develops, manufactures, and supports artillery systems, naval guns, and provides engineering capability to the wider BAE Systems business. Within the Engineering team, you may also be involved in supporting our existing product portfolio (i.e. M777 towed howitzer, 4.5” MK.8 MOD 1 Naval Gun, AS90 Self Propelled Howitzer & 105 Light Gun). This role will provide you with the chance to perform and develop new repair, maintenance and overhaul skills in a fast paced highly motivated team, delivering business critical projects.
