Job summary

A family-owned housebuilder in the UK is looking for an experienced Architect - Urban Designer to join their Design team in Caterham. The successful candidate will create masterplans and architectural solutions for residential projects, manage planning applications, and produce high-quality architectural designs. Candidates should be RIBA Part III qualified or have a related degree, with proficiency in Autocad and design software. The role offers competitive benefits and a supportive environment.

Qualifications

Architect - Urban Designer

We are currently looking for a Architect - Urban Designer with a passion for residential architecture to join our professional Design team in our Caterham office.

What you’ll be doing :

Reporting to the Design Director, your primary responsibility will be to create masterplans and architectural solutions for planning applications on schemes of various sizes. You will work closely with other team members and departments to guide these applications through to planning approval and successful on‑site implementation.

Based at our office in Caterham, Surrey, the role also involves travel to our development sites as required. You will contribute to the design and delivery of residential projects of varying scales, producing high‑quality scheme layouts, masterplans, and architectural designs. Your work will include preparing planning application packages, liaising with local authorities and external stakeholders, managing and instructing external consultants, and making regular site visits to ensure that the design intent is carried through during construction. Collaboration across teams and departments is key to ensuring smooth project progression and successful outcomes.

Skills & knowledge you’ll bring :
  • RIBA Part III qualified or a degree in a related field of study, ideally with a minimum 2 years post‑qualification experience in residential architecture
  • Proven ability on Autocad and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign & Illustrator)
  • Strong graphic, concept, sketching and presentation skills
  • Experience of designing residential developments
  • Experience of managing applications through the planning system
  • Knowledge and experience on Revit will be beneficial but not essential
