Job description
SEND Alternative Provision Mentors and Inspirers (Freelance, Nottinghamshire) Immediate Start

Beyond Limits Learning and Wellbeing

This is not tutoring as most people know it.

We are looking for mentors, motivators and people who can inspire young learners, not classroom replicas.

Many of our learners have complex SEND needs. Others have been excluded or are at risk of exclusion. They need calm, steady adults who can meet them with patience, curiosity and genuine care. Your role is to connect with them, build trust and help them grow from wherever they currently are.

If you are the type of person who sits beside a young person instead of standing over them, you will fit in well here.

You will thrive in this role if:
  • You do not need a whiteboard to teach because you focus on connection first.
  • You are patient, grounded, and comfortable being yourself.
  • You naturally connect with young people who are anxious, withdrawn or dysregulated.
  • You can adapt easily, whether that means a worksheet, a walk or a conversation.
  • You want to make genuine impact rather than ticking boxes.
About the work:
  • One to one Alternative Provision mentoring and education
  • Working with neurodivergent learners, high needs learners and those disengaged from school. Many of our learners fall under EOTAS and ICDS
  • Sessions delivered in homes, community venues or our learning hubs in Mansfield, Beeston, Langwith Bassett and Ransom Wood
  • Casual dress so that you can be comfortable and approachable
  • Flexible, part time hours, mainly during term time. From 6 to 30 hours per week.
  • Learners are typically aged 7 to 16
  • Rates from 30 per hour, depending on experience and placement needs
  • Free use of our learning hubs for your sessions
You need to be:
  • Self employed
  • A driver with your own car and business insurance
  • Enhanced DBS checked, ideally on the Update Service
  • Able to work confidently one to one with young people who may have complex emotional needs, communication needs, or disabilities.
  • Clear and professional when providing simple weekly progress updates
  • Someone with a genuine desire to help children reach their capabilities and feel safe, valued and supported
Bonus if you are:
  • A coach, mentor, therapist, youth worker or creative practitioner
  • Experienced in SEND, SEMH or trauma-informed practice
  • Someone who believes that behaviour is communication and that every child deserves dignity and opportunity
Sound like you?

We would love to hear from you.

We are building a team of calm, grounded, and heart-led practitioners who want to make a real difference every day.
