Advanced Clinical Practitioner

We have an exciting opportunity for a caring and compassionate Advanced Clinical Practitioner to join our team working in our forensic low secure inpatient services based at the Redwoods Hospital in Shrewsbury.

The successful candidate will be a first level Registered Adult Nurse who has successfully completed an MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice and will ideally be able to demonstrate knowledge of working in a mental health setting.

As an Advanced Clinical Practitioner you will work with service users with a range of complex physical and mental health needs. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team providing care to service users on Willow ward (Low secure male mental health rehabilitation ward). You will work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team and senior clinical leads and other ACPs in the development of Advanced clinical practice across the service and in the delivery of high standards of safe and quality care.

The successful candidate will work as an autonomous practitioner, utilising advanced knowledge, skills and expertise in relation to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management of a range of physical health and mental health conditions.

Job responsibilities
  • Hold an appropriate Masters level award with appropriate modules in Advanced Health Assessment and in Non-Medical Prescribing.
  • Take responsibility for own learning and development by recognising and taking advantage of all opportunities to learn, in line with core professional competencies of the Advanced Clinical Practitioner, including full participation in appraisal and supervision, and acting as role model for self-development.
  • Provide autonomous clinical assessment and treatment, demonstrating clinical expertise at an advanced level, in both physical and mental health/LD for patients within the forensic mental health/LD setting.
  • Manage clinical care in partnership with individuals, families and carers; analyse and synthesize complex problems across a range of settings, enabling innovative solutions to enhance people’s experience and improve outcomes.
  • Diagnose and treat conditions and refer onwards to appropriate specialists if needed.
Person Specification
Qualifications & Training
  • Professional regulated core qualification with the NMC/HCPC.
  • Postgraduate qualification in NMP and Advanced Health Assessment.
  • Qualifications in Project Management and/or Quality improvement.
Experience
  • Extensive experience in a management/clinical/practitioner leadership role within mental health/LD setting.
  • High level of clinical expertise in working with people’s mental health/LD.
  • Extensive experience of working in mental health/LD services.
  • Experience in teaching/clinically supervising junior staff.
  • Experience of leading/managing a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience of leading on a series of audits, action plans and projects simultaneously.
  • Experience of working in a forensic health or prison setting.
  • Experience of service development and transformation.
  • Experience of working in a physical health setting.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
  • Knowledge of current national agenda relating to the NHS, social care sector, and forensic mental health/LD services.
  • Ability to involve service users in co-creation and coproduction.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based interventions when working with service users for a variety of presentations.
  • Knowledge of current trends and legislation impacting on services provided to those in the forensic mental health/LD setting.
  • Postgraduate psychotherapy evidence-based practice skills.
  • Knowledge of change theory.
