Responsibilities
  • Support the development and implementation of a dedicated pharmacy service for the Urology department, working closely with the divisional lead pharmacist for surgery.
  • Provide a safe, effective, and patient-centred advanced clinical pharmacy service to urology inpatients and outpatients at the Royal Liverpool Hospital.
  • Lead on medicines optimisation initiatives within urology, ensuring evidence-based prescribing and safe use of high-risk medicines, including those used in urological cancers, infections, and surgical care.
  • Collaborate with urology consultants, specialist nurses, and the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure seamless medicines optimisation across the patient pathway.
  • Contribute to the development of clinical guidelines, protocols, and pathways relevant to urology, supporting best practice and innovation.
  • Provide clinical supervision, mentorship, and training to junior pharmacists and other healthcare professionals in relation to urology and medicines optimisation.
  • Participate in audit, quality improvement, and research activities to evaluate and enhance pharmacy input into urology services.
  • Act as a role model for excellent pharmaceutical care, demonstrating leadership, innovation, and a commitment to continuous professional development.
  • Assist in the delivery of the Surgical Pharmacy Strategy at the Royal Liverpool site, with a focus on enhancing pharmaceutical care within the Urology service.
  • Develop, manage, implement, and audit urology-specific medicines policies and guidelines across the Trust, ensuring safe and effective prescribing for patients undergoing urological procedures and treatments.
  • Lead and supervise the training of pharmacy staff in urology and surgical medicine, including prescribing considerations for patients undergoing surgery, managing urological cancers, infections, and post-operative care.
  • Liaise with healthcare professionals across primary and secondary care to ensure effective and efficient use of medicines, and where necessary, develop protocols for managing patients with chronic urological conditions and those requiring long-term follow-up.
  • Collaborate with urology consultants, specialist nurses, and surgical teams to optimise patient care and ensure seamless transitions across care settings.
  • Support outpatient clinics and inpatient reviews, including medication reconciliation, optimisation, and patient education, particularly for those on complex or high-risk therapies.
  • Contribute to service development, quality improvement, and research initiatives within the surgical division, with a focus on advancing pharmacy input into urology.
