Job description

Our Public Sector Client based in Halifax requires a SEN Support Officer to join the Special Educational Needs Department.

The role is running through until March 2026 - with the potential to extend.

The hourly rate for the position is £14.82 per hour. Generally, the hours of work are Monday to Friday - flexible Office working hours. On occasion, to support delivery, hours could fall out of the banding and could include evening work to meet customer demand.

As a Business Support Officer, the post holder will primarily provide business support to enable the Local Authority to meet its statutory obligations as detailed within current legislation (Children and Families Act 2014), the associated SEND Code of Practice 2014 and The Change Programme linked to the National SEND and Alternative Provision (AP) Strategy.

The role is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and all staff are expected to share this commitment. This post is subject to an Enhanced DBS with both Adult and Children's Barred List Checks, ideally on the update service.

The main duties and responsibilities will include :

This specific role is typically focussed on supporting the Senior SEN Support Officer with the processing of EHC needs assessment requests. This is a legislation bound timeframe which is key to the efficient delivery of our statutory duties. Including but not limited to :

a. Supporting the processing of incoming EHC needs assessment requests.

b. Inputting data on the Local Authority Capita system and generating task timelines.

c. Recording new requests and statutory deadlines on Excel and identification assessment for the pilot scheme.

d. Circulating the information to key stakeholders as per the requirements of The Change Programme.

High quality and consistent business support requiring a good level of ICT skills.

Data processing and high accuracy recording using typical ICT programmes and specialist Local Authority systems.

Efficient management of the SEN team general email address correspondence requiring a good level of written and spoken communication skills.

Work as part of the wider business support team and provide peer support with specific workload as required.

Working with colleagues in the wider service to improve consistency of process and service delivery and a willingness to develop own practice through professional development.

A Business Administration Qualification would be desirable and a good understanding of children with Special Needs would be a great advantage.
