The role of the post holder is to design and project manage various Council construction and special projects, with a focus on disabled access work, as well as provision of disabled access grants, works and support to private individuals. This role includes carrying out surveys for Disabled Facility Grants applications, preparing schedules of works and specifications for adaptations, liaising with contractors, occupational therapists and team members within the local authority, and ensuring works comply with building regulations and the needs of residents.

The Building Consultancy Service provides an in-house agency for the provision of Disabled Facility Grants (DFGs) to provide home adaptations for people with disabilities to enable them to remain living in their own homes as independently as possible and for as long as possible. The team receives approximately 250 new enquiries each year and has an annual budget of approximately £1.7 million.
