This post is focused on the implementation and delivery of Acute Diagnostic Oncology (ADO) pathways from external trusts by early intervention and support for patients with a new cancer diagnosis. To provide professional and clinical leadership and expertise in acute oncology and upper GI cancers, acting as a resource for education and training. To provide early input of specialist nursing care to oncology patients.
The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute Hospital in the London Borough of Hillingdon and offers a wide range of services including accident and emergency, inpatient care, day surgery, outpatient clinics and maternity services. The Trust’s services at Mount Vernon Hospital include routine day surgery, delivered at a modern treatment centre, a minor injuries unit and outpatient clinics.

This post is focused on the implementation and delivery of ADO/AOS and support for patients with an Upper GI cancer. The post holder will play a key role in running the Acute Oncology Service and monitoring its impact using several key metrics. Triage and assessment of Oncology Patients across Urgent and Emergency Care including SDEC, and patient admitted via UEC. To work autonomously in organising a caseload. Ensuring this reflects the core components of the Clinical Nurse Specialist role, which involves high level of clinical decision making, advance clinical practice and providing consultations for healthcare professionals. To raise awareness among health care staff of the educational needs of clients and family/carers, paying particular attention to the public and personal attitudes to cancer, and how these relate to political, social, economic, and ethical issues.
