We are looking for an Accountant to join our clients Strategic Finance team. Reporting to the Principal or Senior Accountant, you will play a key role in supporting financial planning, budget management, and corporate finance services across the organisation. This role provides a fantastic opportunity to contribute to strategic and operational finance in a complex, public sector environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide financial support and advice for medium and long-term planning within nominated service departments.
  • Support preparation and monitoring of both capital and revenue budgets.
  • Deliver clear financial performance reports and advice to senior managers and budget holders.
  • Contribute to service reviews, efficiency improvements, and cost-reduction initiatives.
  • Assist in corporate finance areas including tax management, financial accounting, treasury management, and asset management.
  • Support year-end accounts preparation, charitable and trust funds, and treasury/ investment management.
  • Participate in cross-service working groups and corporate initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations, governance requirements, and health & safety procedures.
Essential Skills & Experience
  • CCAB qualified accountant.
  • Evidence of CPD and professional development.
  • Strong experience of providing financial advice and preparing/ monitoring budgets in a complex organisation.
  • Proven ability to present financial information to senior stakeholders.
  • Competent in MS Office, especially Excel, with excellent analytical skills.
  • Experience in preparing annual accounts.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to prioritise, meet deadlines, and work independently or as part of a team.
  • Willingness and ability to travel between locations as required.
Desirable
  • Experience of Local Government finance.
  • Knowledge of Oracle Financials and Discoverer.
  • Awareness of VAT and taxation issues affecting the public sector.
  • Experience preparing reports on financial performance.
  • Familiarity with local government accounting frameworks.
