Job description

Account Manager – Analytical Laboratory Solutions (UK Territory)

Location: Field-based

Territory: Midlands / South East (Leicester to Bristol, plus Hampshire, Surrey, Dorset and Berkshire)

Client base: Pharma/biotech, food & beverage, environmental, contract analytical, chemicals, academia

I’m working with a globally recognised manufacturing organisation that supports analytical testing across a wide range of scientific industries, including pharma/biotech, chemicals, environmental, materials, food & beverage, contract analytical laboratories and academia. They are considered innovators within their sector and invest heavily in product development to maintain their position as a global market leader.

As a well-established company with a strong and loyal customer base, this role will primarily focus on account management; maintaining and growing revenue within existing accounts. There will also be a requirement to generate new business by targeting organisations across the region and winning customers from competitors. The role involves regular travel, typically 3–4 days per week, visiting customers and attending events, exhibitions and networking activities.

This is a technical sales role; full training will be provided, and the organisation is renowned for its exceptional training and professional development. Candidates must hold a degree (or equivalent laboratory experience) in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Life Sciences or a related discipline, and possess a solid technical understanding of spectroscopy, chromatography or separation science (hands‑on experience preferred). You will be expected to provide technical guidance and support to customers with troubleshooting assays and product selection. Candidates must also have previous experience in a scientific, customer‑facing role, ideally within scientific sales.

You will join a high-performing Field and Inside Sales team, and strong teamwork is essential. Alongside developing opportunities within your own territory, you will collaborate with colleagues to support growth across multi-site accounts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and grow the assigned territory through a consultative sales approach
  • Build strong relationships with scientists, technical staff and procurement teams
  • Understand customer workflows and recommend appropriate technical and commercial solutions
  • Collaborate with inside sales and wider commercial colleagues to ensure seamless customer support
  • Gather market insights and contribute to regional strategy
Candidate Profile
  • Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry or a related scientific discipline, or equivalent laboratory experience
  • Understanding of analytical or laboratory workflows; experience with separation techniques is beneficial but not essential
  • Strong communication skills and confidence engaging with customers in technical settings
  • Sales experience preferred, but technically minded candidates seeking a move into a commercial role will also be considered
  • Willingness to travel across the territory; a full driving licence is required

As expected from a global market leader, the company offers an attractive benefits package, including a competitive base salary, company car and bonus (OTE ~£65–70K).
