We are working closely alongside with a local authority in Newport to assist with the appointment of an Accommodation Officer on a 3 months contract highly likely to be extended at client’s discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Summary

Newport City Council is seeking an energetic and resilient Accommodation Officer to join its busy Housing team. This key role is essential for effectively managing the full spectrum of accommodation provided by the Council including Temporary Transitional and Settled units to meet local homelessness needs. The successful candidate will be pivotal in managing accommodation bookings, maximising the suitability and occupancy of stock, and ensuring essential administrative and financial processes are completed efficiently. This post requires an individual with proven experience in housing services, a proactive work ethic and a passion for making a tangible difference in the lives of vulnerable clients. The ability to demonstrate resilience, maintain high performance is required.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the team with efficient booking and allocation of temporary accommodation units ensuring suitability for client needs and adhering to policy.
  • Manage placements and movements of clients to maximise the use of suitable accommodation across Temporary Transitional and Settled housing stock.
  • Proactively manage client rent accounts ensuring all accounts are accurately maintained and kept up-to-date with the goal of minimising debts.
  • Identify support needs of clients upon placement working with internal teams and external agencies to ensure clients receive necessary assistance to maintain their tenancies.
  • Ensure the delivery of effective services and outcomes in the field of temporary accommodation management.
Essentials
  • Proven experience providing housing services including direct experience in the management of temporary transitional or settled accommodation.
  • Experience managing client rent accounts, dealing with debt and processing housing benefit applications or related welfare benefits.
  • Strong understanding of homelessness legislation and the provision of accommodation in Wales/UK.
  • Excellent administrative and organisational skills with meticulous attention to detail for legal and financial documentation.
  • A full UK driving licence.
