Job description
A-level Science Tutor (SEN)

Department: Recruitment - South

Employment Type: Contract

Location: Haslemere, Surrey

Compensation: £25.00 - £35.00 / hour

Description

Be more than an educator.
Be the reason a young person believes in a brighter future.

Many of our young people with SEMH needs or SEN have faced challenges that have left them feeling discouraged or disconnected from education. Every young person deserves someone who won't give up on them - could that be you?

At Fresh Start in Education, we’re looking for a proactive, person‑centred tutor to design and deliver personalised learning sessions in A-level Biology and Chemistry on a 1:1 basis for a student with SEN/SEMH needs who is out of mainstream education. With sessions taking place in the student’s home on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, you’ll help your student build confidence and inspire them to rediscover the joy of learning in a way that works for them. One learner, one relationship, one small step at a time.

With allowances for travel and resources, the possibility of future placements and full support from our dedicated team, this flexible role gives you the freedom to deliver learning in the ways that you feel best meet the student’s needs and interests.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Working 1:1 with young people in their homes or specialist settings in Hampshire
  • Initially planning and delivering personalised, educational sessions in A-level Biology and Chemistry that reflect the learner’s needs and abilities
  • Running sessions during the school day (term time only) that typically last 3 to 5 hours
  • Engaging with students who may have ASD, ADHD, SEMH needs, GDD or complex needs and helping them achieve outcomes at their pace
  • Working flexibly as part of a compassionate, expert‑led team that values you and your skills
Who we’re looking for:

We welcome applications from individuals who have:

  • Experience (at least 1 year) as teachers or tutors who have directly supported young people with SEN/SEMH needs
  • Experience planning and delivering A-level Science
  • De‑escalation and behaviour management skills
  • Availability on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays
  • An up‑to‑date knowledge of safeguarding and child protection
What you can expect from Fresh Start in Education:
  • £25–£35 per hour, depending on experience
  • Travel subsidy and £15 per session resource allowance
  • Free access to counselling and wellbeing services, pension options and store discounts
  • Dedicated line manager, support and inclusion in a supportive, expert team
  • Bank staff role (PAYE), offering both short‑term and long‑term placements
