2nd Engineer-Maritime North - OOP Operations • Full-time 48 hours - 6 weeks on 6 weeks off • Refrewshire • Salary: Competitive plus benefits
Serco is looking 2nd Engineer-Maritime North - OOP Operations. Responsible to the Chief Engineer for the day-to-day running of the Engine Room Department and in maintaining an environment which is without risk to the health and safety of engine room staff, other crew members and the environment.
Main Accountabilities
- Carry out planned maintenance, emergency maintenance and repair work for continuous survey of all propulsion, auxiliary and deck machinery, air conditioning, domestic installations, boilers, fittings and structures both within and without the machinery room spaces after discussions regarding work programme with Chief Engineer.
- Assigns duties to all staff, continuously monitoring progress.
- Personally supervise work on main engine and auxiliaries, to assign duties to the Engine Room Staff to ensure a planned and co-ordinated performance of maintenance duties.
- Keep Chief Engineer advised of maintenance progress at all times.
- Ensure machinery and machinery area is kept as clean as possible, with engine room stairs, ladders and walkways kept clear at all times.
- Be in the engine room during manoeuvring and trial periods (with short breaks yet remain readily accessible).
- Monitor, control and document the use of spare parts and stores.
- Control, allocate and monitor overtime after discussions with the Chief Engineer.
- To liaise with the other members of the ship's staff in order to give feedback and early warning to the Chief Engineer concerning any practice, item of plant or machinery which might be a potential hazard.
- To be fully conversant with the use of all safety equipment, emergency procedures and contingency plans and so ensure that all members of engine room staff are trained and proficient.
- Be familiar with safety routines and ensure necessary safeguards are in place before any maintenance/repair work commences.
- Fully conversant with company Safety Management System, specifically:
- Permit to Work/Tag Out Systems
- Shipboard Management Team
- Shipboard Safety Committee
- To understudy the Chief Engineer so that, in the event of illness or accident, they may take over the responsibility of the Engine Room Department temporarily.
- To give/receive an appropriate and detailed written handover when leaving/joining Company vessels.
- To carry out any other duties as may reasonably be requested by the Chief Engineer.
