Job description
Overview

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and dedicated dental therapist to join our Public Dental Service (PDS) to provide patient-centred clinical dental duties in NHS Dumfries & Galloway. The post holder will provide the full range of therapist and hygienist services, as outlined in the General Dental Council (GDC) scope of practice, to patients including those with additional needs, medically complex, anxious/phobic, priority groups such as prisoners and homeless, safety net service and as referred by dentists working within the PDS.

The post involves working to and keeping up to date with developments, scope of practice of DCPs and Health & Safety. Effective communication and the ability to handle difficult situations or patients positively are essential. Relevant clinical experience and GDC registration as a dental therapist are required.

This post is based at Garden Hill Health Centre for 3 days (22.5 hours) per week, with scope for review on this and other work patterns will be considered.

Responsibilities
  • Provide the full range of therapist and hygienist services in line with GDC scope of practice.
  • Deliver patient-centred clinical care to diverse groups including those with additional needs, medically complex conditions, and patients who are anxious or phobic.
  • Work within the PDS settings and refer as appropriate by dentists within the service.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of DCP scope of practice and health and safety requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and the wider team, including difficult conversations, in a professional and positive manner.

  • GDC registration as a dental therapist (essential).
  • Relevant clinical experience in dental therapy and hygiene.
