Job description

Are you an experienced ,motivated nurse with a passion for high-quality care? We are looking for an experiencednurse with a special interest within surgery to join our friendly andinnovative team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in ensuringsafe and effective care for patients preparing for elective surgery. You willwork as clinical expert, using advanced assessments and decision-making skillsto support patient throughout pre-operative process. Our nurse led team deliverpre-operative assessment to patients and works closely with anesthetics andconsultants.

You will need to developindividualised care plans to optimise patients for surgery, identifying andmanaging pre-operative risks. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams toensure safely and timely surgical readiness. Educate patients on their surgicaljourney, including medication adjustment, enhanced recovery programs andfasting instructions.

The preassessment department is a core team withinthe trust that links In with all surgical specialities. It ts an MDT approachto ensure that patients that are listed for elective surgery are fullyoptomised pre-operatively.

This is a full time position 37.5 hours per weekcovering Monday Friday within the preassessment department.

Main duties of the job

The role entails the pre-operative assessment of patientsawaiting elective surgery from all specialities within the trust. You willassess elective surgery patients for fitness for surgery and refer to otheragencies or medical teams as appropriate.

You will become a core member of the team responsible forassessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating holistic, high quality andindividualised care which respects patient personal dignity and beliefs.

You will ensure that all pre-operative documentation iscomplete and accurate and that information is stored and maintainedappropriately. You will collaborate with members of the multi-disciplinary teamwithin and outside of Trust whilst empowering patients, and promoting healtheducation and advise on prevention of ill health. You will act as the patientadvocate while adhering to the NMC code of Professional Conduct and the TrustPolicies and Procedures.

You will lead follow-up of all pre-operative investigationsi.e. caridology / sleep studies / bloods etc, and cover the management ofpatients awaiting elective surgery. You will be overall responsible for themanagement of your own cohort of patients including patients currently unfitfor surgery.

This will be a trainee role under the guidance of seniorpreassessing sisters.
