A prominent environmental organization is seeking a Project Manager to lead two crucial initiatives, MARG and VISTA, focused on sustainable building practices. The Global Buildings Performance Network (GBPN) is an international not‑for‑profit organization dedicated to reducing climate impacts through policy reform, Market transformation, Health & Resilience and Learning & Innovation in the buildings sector. In India, GBPN focuses on digitising to decarbonise, supporting policy implementation, advancing healthy housing and urban planning guidelines, and establishing solution centres that consolidate decarbonisation efforts across NGOs, think tanks, and international institutions and bridge the gap to mainstreaminnovation.

About the Projects

KR 3.1: MARG – Mainstreaming Alliance for Resilient and Green Buildings
MARG is a UNEP–IFC joint initiative that brings together government, private sector, financial institutions, NGOs, academia, and innovators to accelerate India’s transition to net‑zero, resilient, and green buildings. The platform promotes policy alignment, data transparency, capacity building, and collaboration to reduce duplication and enhance collective impact. Its long‑term aim is to mainstream resilient and green buildings through coordinated action and policy reforms aligned with national climategoals.

KR 3.2: VISTA – Viable Innovations for Sustainable & Transformative Architecture
VISTA drives the adoption of low‑carbon and innovative construction materials by validating emerging solutions, dispelling adoption barriers, and building evidence through technical vetting. Through its Solutions Centre, VISTA connects innovators, manufacturers, and government agencies, develops a fit‑for‑purpose vetting framework, builds ecosystem capacity, and supports government uptake—advancing India’s shift toward zero‑emissionbuildings.

THE OPPORTUNITY

GBPN is seeking the services of a consultant as a Project manager responsible to manage two workstreams and can work closely with the Managing Director at GBPN India to:

  • To lead, coordinate, and deliver two parallel workstreams—MARG (KR 3.1) and VISTA (KR 3.2)—ensuring all activities, stakeholder engagements, outputs, and reporting milestones are met.
  • Lead project reporting, completing quarterly donor reporting, final reporting and internal final report.
  • Lead Project M&E, ensuring all M&E data is collected and reported on a quarterly basis and all data figures are completed at project closure.
  • Ensure the project achieves its set milestones and OKRs.
  • Lead & facilitate a project evaluation at project closure.
  • Write the proposal/concept note for the next phase of projects with support & guidance from the senior manager.
  • Develop an engagement plan for assigned project stakeholders and manage these accordingly to achieve an agreed outcome.
  • Provide new ideas on other funding opportunities based on project experiences.

Target Regions: India
Place of work: Remote (with flexibility to travel as required)
Anticipated start of work: 15th January
Duration: 12 months (until 31st December 2026)
Time commitment: 3 days a week (60% FTE)

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for a consultant with the below qualifications,

  • Master’s degree in Architecture, Urban Planning, Sustainability, Environmental Studies, Engineering, Public Policy, or a related field.
  • 5–8 years of project management experience, preferably in sustainable buildings, low‑carbon materials, climate/urban development, or multi‑stakeholder initiatives.
  • Experience working with government agencies, innovators, or international organisations is an advantage.
  • Strong project management, organizational, communication, and stakeholder facilitation skills.
  • Ability to synthesise technical information, manage multiple deliverables, and work effectively in a dynamic, multi‑partner environment.
  • Familiarity with India’s building sector and material innovation landscape.
  • Proactive, solution‑oriented, detail‑focused, and comfortable with public speaking, workshops, and training facilitation.
  • Demonstrated commitment to sustainability, innovation, and climate action.

Other Requirements

  • An excellent command of English and notably very good writing skills, as all deliverables must be presented in that language and general correspondence is in English.
  • Access to Highest Speed internet available in the country of work.
SCOPE OF WORK AND REPORTING

Scope of work
To lead and manage the below project workstreams

  • KR 3.1 – Launch MARG Initiative to coordinate international support and develop at least 4 high‑impact fundable proposals to deliver affordable, sustainable and resilient buildings at scale by Q4 2026.
  • KR 3.2 – GBPN prepares 1 detailed “Fit‑for‑Purpose” vetting framework and guidance toolkit for the government and material innovators, ensuring its uptake by at least 10 innovators by Q4 2026 (VISTA Project)

2 White Paper and Presentation for required authorities (BMTPC/alike and state bodies) aggregating the innovation ecosystem (mapping the supply chain across an innovator, scouter, aggregator, funder, government, implementor) of India for the Building Sector so far and presenting a section on “Need of the hour/way forward”. April 2026

3 Prepare a detailed “Fit‑for‑Purpose” vetting framework and guidance toolkit for the government and innovators to follow, factoring individual perspectives of both the parties. May 2026

4 At least 4 Capacity Building sessions across minimum 50 innovators to present the “Fit‑for‑Purpose” vetting framework and guidance toolkit, with at least 90% buy in on the prepared toolkit. July 2026

5 Present the Fit‑for‑Purpose “vetting framework and guidance toolkit” to the Government (BMTPC/alike and state bodies), and secure buy‑in on the same. July 2026

6 Liaison with at least 10 innovators and ensure uptake to the Fit‑for‑Purpose “vetting framework and guidance toolkit” for real time testing and documentation of its implementability and usefulness. Nov 2026

7 Project Completion Report, Funder Report and Drafting Next Steps for renewal for the grant. Dec 2026

The consultant will report directly to the Managing Director, GBPN India for this project. All final outputs will be subject to internal GBPN review procedures, and will need to be cleared by the Managing Director, GBPN India and the GBPN Executive group.

The consultant/expert/partner organization should be available for regular (monthly) meetings to discuss progress for which updates should be prepared in advance. These meetings can take place via teleconference as required.

CONTRACT TYPE AND SCHEDULE OF PAYMENT

For Individual Consultants and organizations

  • Assignment through a (consulting) contract over a period of 12 months – with possibility for extension based on performance.
  • The consultant/expert/partner organization will work from their normal place of work – focusing on the relevant region to cover.

Schedule of Payment:

  • The consultant/expert/partner organization will be remunerated according to a schedule of payment agreed upon signing the contractual agreement. Invoices are processed upon submission of outputs and upon approval of the final report/contract output. The consultant/expert/partner organization may propose a payment schedule as part of the financial proposal.
