Description du poste
Software Development Engineer (F/H)

Company: Alstom

At Alstom, we understand transport networks and what moves people. From high-speed trains, metros, monorails, and trams, to turnkey systems, services, infrastructure, signalling and digital mobility, we offer our diverse customers the broadest portfolio in the industry. Every day, more than 80 000 colleagues lead the way to greener and smarter mobility worldwide, connecting cities as we reduce carbon and replace cars.

Could you be the full-time Software Development Engineer in Villeurbanne (69 - France) we’re looking for?

Your future role

Take on a new challenge and apply your software development expertise in a new cutting-edge field. You’ll work alongside a young, multidisciplinary, and motivated team and contribute to shaping the future of mobility by developing Environment Perception solutions.

You’ll play a pivotal role in enabling advanced perception technologies for railway applications. Day-to-day, you’ll work closely with teams across the business (system architects, validation and verification teams, software and electronics engineers) as well as with partners in collaborative programs, actively participating in the definition, development, and software integration of an Environment Perception system.

You’ll specifically take care of implementing cutting-edge technological strategies to solve environment perception challenges, but also adapting and evolving the existing perception platform to integrate third‑party applications, particularly those related to advanced railway environment perception.

Responsibilities
  • Implementing the most appropriate technological strategies for environment perception challenges.
  • Adapting and enhancing the existing perception platform for seamless integration of third‑party applications.
  • Supporting and collaborating with partners developing perception algorithms to ensure compliance with integration constraints (internal and external interfaces, functional and software requirements, coding rules).
  • Conducting technological benchmarking of various algorithmic solutions.
  • Collaborating closely with the validation team to define validation strategies for perception algorithms and updating existing test resources to accommodate new algorithms.
  • Participating in laboratory and on‑site testing to validate algorithms in situ.
  • Following best practices in testing, quality assurance, and cybersecurity.
  • Promoting Alstom’s Code of Ethics and adhering to the highest standards of ethical conduct.
All about you

We value passion and attitude over experience. That’s why we don’t expect you to have every single skill. Instead, we’ve listed some that we think will help you succeed and grow in this role:

  • Engineering degree or Master’s degree with significant experience in software development.
  • Experience in designing and developing perception solutions (e.g., computer vision, LiDAR) for embedded applications and knowledge of associated fundamental techniques (e.g., image or point cloud analysis, filtering, feature extraction, clustering, segmentation, classification, optimisation).
  • Strong knowledge of software development in C++ and Python; familiarity with ROS2 and CI/CD development approaches is a plus.
  • Skills in Artificial Intelligence applied to perception (an asset).
  • Experience in software optimisation, inference techniques applied to computer vision, and formal computing (an asset).
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and uncertain environment, within an international context.
  • Strong attention to detail, teamwork spirit, and customer‑oriented mindset.
  • Fluent in French and English.
Things you’ll enjoy

Join us on a life‑long transformative journey – the rail industry is here to stay, so you can grow and develop new skills and experiences throughout your career. You’ll also:

  • Enjoy stability, challenges, and a long‑term career free from boring daily routines.
  • Work with experts in engineering, software, and mobility in a stimulating international environment.
  • Collaborate with transverse teams and helpful colleagues.
  • Contribute to innovative and impactful projects, shaping the trajectory of autonomous trains.
  • Utilise our agile and collaborative working environment.
  • Steer your career in whatever direction you choose.
  • Progress towards leadership roles or technical expertise.
  • Benefit from a fair and dynamic reward package that recognises your performance and potential, plus comprehensive and competitive social coverage.

You don’t need to be a train enthusiast to thrive with us. We guarantee that when you step onto one of our trains with your friends or family, you’ll be proud. If you’re up for the challenge, we’d love to hear from you!
