Current status: EDF power solutions is seeking for its LATAM Division a Senior Technical Hydrogen & e-Fuel Project Manager (H / F).
Reporting to the Hydrogen Practice and to the Hydrogen and E-Fuel Technical Director, the Senior Technical Hydrogen & e-Fuel Manager is an "Hydrogen and E-fuel" technical referent for the EDF Group. This includes an ability to communicate effectively with Business and technical entities by understanding their issues, and a capacity to coordinate as project manager of one or more Hydrogen or e-fuel production projects in connection with industrial companies from the proposal phase to its commissioning, ensuring the coordination of internal and external interfaces.
Responsibilities
On a Hydrogen and E-Fuel project your missions as a Senior Technical Hydrogen & e-Fuel Manager consist in managing and delivering the Molecule (Hydrogen and E-fuel) package within agreed objectives (HSE, budget, schedule, quality). He will coordinate resources activities in the package and ensure coordination with the other packages.
The Molecule scope will include the following activities:
- The assessment of the local site conditions.
- The engineering and technical design of the project (pre-FEED, FEED).
- The contractual strategy for the construction, the selection of the contractors and negotiation of the construction EPC contracts.
- The technical due diligence by the lenders of the project.
- The permitting process in compliance with the local regulation and international standards.
- The Molecule team of the project could be supported by external advisors.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Project delivery: Lead the molecule scope of the project including engineering and procurement.
- Lead the definition of the engineering strategy of the molecule scope to ensure optimization, cost optimization and control of technical risks (pre-FEED, FEED with resources selection, advisors procurement, etc.).
- Lead the execution engineering study of the Molecule scope during the whole development phase (define the pre-FEED, FEED structuring strategy with resources selection and advisors procurement in line with the EPC strategy).
- Define the contracting and procurement strategy of the molecule scope ensuring competitiveness and control of construction risks.
- Lead the technology survey, strategy, and provide recommendations to the project director (particularly for the Electrolyzers and the Ammonia licensors).
- Lead the selection of the EPC Contractor(s) and the negotiation of the EPC contracts for the molecule scope.
- Ensure consistencies and coordination of the molecule scope with all the other technical scopes of the project and with the permitting process of the project.
- Support the technical due diligence of the project by the lenders for all topics related to the Molecule scope.
- Define the O&M strategy for the Molecule scope and prepare the contractual structure for the O&M activities.
- Ensure that activities of the Molecule Lead are performed in accordance with the project agreements, local regulation and development agreements signed between the shareholders.
Team management
- Lead and coordinate the Molecule team to deliver the molecule scope on time and within the budget.
- Ensure project team is continuously composed of appropriate resources. Adapt and improve project team governance and organization.
- Ensure strong working relationships between the molecule team and the whole project team.
- Implement and maintain proper documentation management for all deliverables.
Reporting
- Report to the project Director or Technical Director on progress and key decisions through periodic meetings and regular reporting.
- Support the preparation of the project board / steering committee meetings for all topics related to the molecule scope.
- Ensure permanent alignment of the project with the project director with the progress of the Molecule scope.
Relationship with external stakeholders
- Support the Project Director and project team in all exchanges with external stakeholders for topics related to the molecule scope (Local authorities, contractors, offtakers, local authorities and communities).
Other
- Identify and manage project risks on the Molecule scope, ensuring that appropriate risk management strategies are in place to mitigate risks and manage issues as they arise.
- Support preparation of the construction phase (staffing of the construction team, owner engineer selection, hand-over to construction team).
- Ensure the highest standards of health, safety and environmental management are implemented on the molecule scope.
- Contribute to the incubation of the profession by proposing and developing the technical framework for sizing, construction and operation of renewable hydrogen production projects; contribute to technical-economic analyses and value creation opportunities within EDF groups.
- Support the Hydrogen and E-Fuel Technical Manager and the practice to define the industrial strategy; assist other team members in key stages of the project, particularly contractual approaches and EPC strategy.
- Contribute to Knowledge Management of the Hydrogen Practice and participate in the green H2 / Ammonia community within EDF.
Experience & Education
- Experience: at least 10 years of experience in the management of technical teams of Hydrogen and/or Ammonia projects including engineering and procurement.
- Education: Master’s degree from engineering or business school or equivalent.
- Languages: Fluent English (oral and written). French is an advantage.
Qualities sought
Hard skills:
- Proven success leading the management of complex energy projects (large-scale renewable projects, hydrogen / hydrogen derivatives projects, oil and gas,...) in FEED and Construction phase.
- Experience managing and developing large project teams.
- Strong knowledge of project management methodologies.
- Strong knowledge of the engineering of Hydrogen and Ammonia production facilities.
- Solid commercial capabilities with the ability to negotiate key commercial aspects of EPC contracts.
Soft skills:
- Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to develop and maintain strong collaborative working relationships.
- Ability to share information in a synthetic and efficient manner at various levels: team members, external stakeholders, project shareholders.
- Able to work as a team in remote conditions with members located in different geographical areas.
- Ability to establish and maintain strong relationships with EPC contractors and bidders.
- Ability to work under pressure, manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines.
- Demonstrated commitment to health, safety and environmental management.
