Description du poste
Post-doc (f/m) on beamline ID10-COH in the X-ray Diffraction and Scattering Group

The European Synchrotron, the ESRF, is an international research centre based in Grenoble, France.

Through its innovative engineering, pioneering scientific vision and a strong commitment from its 700 staff members, the ESRF is recognised as one of the top research facilities worldwide. Its particle accelerator produces intense X‑ray beams that are used by thousands of scientists each year for experiments in diverse fields such as biology, medicine, environmental sciences, cultural heritage, materials science and physics.

Supported by 19 countries, the ESRF is an equal opportunity employer and encourages diversity.

The ID10‑COH beamline exploits the high fraction of coherent photons delivered by the upgraded ESRF‑EBS storage rings to probe nano and atomic scale structures and dynamics.

Dynamics is studied using X-ray Photon Correlation Spectroscopy (XPCS) that is analogous to dynamic light scattering using X-rays. XPCS allows studying motions in several disordered systems ranging from complex fluids, colloids, vesicles, proteins to glasses. The high flux and the newly developed pixels detectors are opening new opportunities to investigate dynamics extending from sub‑μs to thousands of second time scales. Nanoscale (~10 nm) imaging experiments are performed using the so‑called “Coherent Diffraction Imaging” approach. It allows 3D imaging of isolated objects smaller than 6 µm in size. It has been used to study objects ranging from exoskeletons of marine algae and calcium carbonate microparticles to cell and battery anodes.

You will participate in on‑going in‑house research programmes on the ID10‑COH endstation, contribute to the operation of the beamline, and provide support to external users as local contact. You will also have the opportunity to develop your own research programme, aligned with ID10‑COH's scientific objectives and capabilities, and establish collaborations with ESRF colleagues and the user community.
